In August 2007 Mast Motorsports was first made aware of the Sand Car emission standards that were released by CARB mid 2006 after contacting Sand Car companies to see if there was any interest in our upcoming LS series Turnkey Crate Engines that were designed primarily for muscle cars.  The general consensus we received for the contact we had from the Sand Car community was that the emission standard would and could never be enforced.  By contacting CARB directly we initially were discouraged from investing any more time and effort into the emissions because of the lack of information and the disparity between CARB and the Sand Car community.

Recently we received news that the standard would be enforced by CARB and that the announcement in 2006 resulted in little to no actions from the Sand Car Engine and Turnkey Sand Car manufactures.  After a discussion with a major manufacturer at the Dallas CORR even on October 10th 2007 the final decision was made to design two separate CARB Legal engines for Sand Car manufactures for the 2008 model year.

We wish to display the engineering capabilities of Mast Motorsports and the capabilities of our new M90 engine management system to the Sand Car community by designing, testing, and CARB certifying a GM LS Series 525 HP engine even though the competition has already had months if not a years head start.  Our first engine design goals are simple.  Build a 500+ SAE horsepower engine that will meet the power requirements of %95 of Sand Car Manufactures and that can be sold CARB tested and approved.

The GM L92 VVT engine’s inherent design will make it shockingly affordable with a target price of $9,600 turn key to Sand Car manufactures that make an engine commitment for 2008.  That includes everything engine related; New GMPP aluminum block crate engine, calibrated ECM, wiring harness, alternator, power steering pump, headers, catalytic converters, and mufflers.

Our second engine design is a hand built GM LS series 427 with CNC heads, forged pistons, forged crankshaft, and forged connecting rods that is slated to hit the slightly more power hungry at 600 horsepower.  This LS3 427 engine will come fully dressed and turn key with a target price of $13,300 with an engine commitment.

Mast Motorsports aspires to earn the respect and business for the Sand Car and off road community.  Due to the CARB requirements Mast Motorsports must work directly with Sand Car manufactures in order to ensure that the engine certification will apply to the manufacture’s combination of vehicle weight, chassis, and transmission configuration.
