Glamis Season Update 11/21

gupdate1114.jpg

Have you ever spent an entire week in the desert and wondered where all of the days went. We just sat here and did a quick recap on last week, and I didn’t realize that it was already Tuesday! How time flies in Glamis time!

Tuesday and Wednesday was filled with seeing the exciting new products from UTV Concepts. They have created a 4-part roof system. The metal roof is a stand alone unit which you can bolt on a roof rack to keep coolers and anything else you want to tie down. The rear light bar has an inside light, two white rear lights, license plate lights and very bright LED tail lights.
My favorite part was the front attachment that includes a CD stereo, 4 speakers, i-pod plug ins, and wiring for 2 additional lights. The coolest part is it is wired so you don’t have to have the key on to play the radio! They installed it on our silver Rhino, so you are more than welcome to drop by and check it out! They also brought out a plug and play gauge cluster and a tire mount for the hood. You will see pictures soon, I promise!

It was soooo hot here this week. Someone that I talked to in the East was talking snow and I was sweating in shorts and a tank top…is it really the middle of November? We had enough of it on Thursday so we loaded some boxes of magazines and headed down to Gecko with the AC on HIGH! Melissa got to see the other part of the vendor area at Sweet Maries and Krazy Keven’s.

Our big trip of the week was to the South Dunes to drop off magazines. We hit the dirt road from Glamis and 40 minutes later we were at Buttercup. I have never been down there before, so we did a little exploring and then off to Gordon’s Well. Same with Gordon’s Well…it was all new to me. I have heard so much about Duners Diner, but have never been able to make it on the ride down there. Geeze what an amazing area. Scott from SandSational made our day when he suggested that we head to Yuma for a dinner at Outback…yummy! Didn’t take too long to convince me, especially since it was about 45 minutes less than going into El Centro and back around. So after a delicious meal at Outback we hit the dirt road back to camp. Now that is a great secret to know…only 45 minutes if that to Outback and cheap gas in Yuma from Vendors Row!

Friday came quickly, but it sure was quiet. In fact the whole weekend was quiet. Not a ton of people out here like there even is on off weekends…the calm before the storm! Sorry the pictures aren’t up yet…I didn’t have a way to get them back to the office to be posted…and I sure wasn’t going to do it from here on my wireless card! They will be posted next week for sure! I got another great group of pictures!

Melissa and I did some more shopping around here on vendor row…you know us girls always looking for the good stuff. Trust me you want us shopping for you!! Would you have ever thought that you could come to the dunes and get a massage? Ok, so it is a water massage bed, but it is awesome! It is at Broken Bikes which is right next door to our booth. We also found a ton of SXS products at Dragon Fire Havasu including a new light that you can put into the cab of your SXS, sand car or anything with a roll cage for that matter.

One of the coolest parts of the week for me was taking a full blown tour of the Glamis Beach Store. Did you know this is its 29th year? Did you know that they are open 365 days a year? I didn’t. I also have a lot more respect for their operation when you figure they are 100% self-sufficient. No power lines, no water, no sewer system…they have to do it all!

Camaraderie is a part of the Glamis world and something that we at Sand Addiction take seriously. We enjoy our time getting to meet you and hang out with our current friends. It is at Glamis that we are able to take a well needed time-out and enjoy our friends – new and old. We enjoyed a couple of great home cooked dinners with XXX Rated Racing, Weekend Warrior and Big Belly Crew. Camp fires with a new group and endless conversations at our booth with everyone. So far I think the most remote visitor was Alaska…but there have been some from Canada, Italy, Germany and all across the U.S.
Please be sure to stop by this week to say HI!! We enjoy talking with you, and yes, we will take a picture of your ride too!
