Glamis Season Update 11/27

There is nothing better than sand in your Turkey. The grit, the bland taste that highlights the moistness of the turkey and all of the flavoring that was added. Well, if you had sand in your turkey this year, then you must have dropped it and applied the 5 second rule! The weather was amazing giving us a pristine Thanksgiving dinner table at Glamis.

The Sand Addiction group gathered around our table and said our blessings for everything that we have received and been able to give in the last year. But this year, the turkey wasn’t the conversation at our table – it was the mac & cheese. For some reason we seem to be very competitive in our group, and eating is something that we all take very seriously. The homemade Mac & Cheese contest came out of nowhere when all of a sudden 2 different people were bringing it…then I decided why not make it 3.

Dane and I closed the booth at 3 on Thursday for dinner. When we made it to our camp about 200 yards away from our booth there was a table of food to feed 30 people…there were only 12 of us! The 3 mac and cheeses were lined up and we announced that everyone had to eat a little of each because it was a bakeoff! Shells, bowties, and elbow noodles. All 3 different. We didn’t disclose whos was whos so the vote would be fair. But, as we sat though dinner, I realized that we needed to do a secret ballet so we could get a “real” vote.

The pieces of napkin were torn and a couple of pens were acquired from the trailer. The voting began. The only rule was the three of us couldn’t vote for our own creations. Then the tally: shells, shells, bow tie, elbow, bow tie. And when the last tally was ticked…it was a 3 WAY TIE! No joke, each mac and cheese got 4 votes! How does that happen?? So we all got our picture taken, and the leftovers put into one container…that made it straight over to my trailer refrigerator! Yummy Mac & Cheese!!

The week prior to Thanksgiving was fun. I got an early morning ride in on Tuesday to check on the status of the dunes. Acceptable but a little rutted out. Which was taken care of on Wednesday when the wind blew so hard that we decided to go to Boardmanville instead of opening the booth! The dunes were now perfect for the holiday weekend.

Friday was by far the high point of the weekend. The wind was blowing but that sure didn’t keep people from coming out and shopping. The drag strip was packed with people. Olds hill was 5-6 rows deep during the day and at night. The dunes were crowded with riders getting their fix. Gecko road was loaded to the max where not even a sand car could fit through to get to the sand side. I love it. Glamis at Thanksgiving. The reason we all come. To see the amazing equipment. To see all of the crazy people. To do your day after Thanksgiving shopping at the Glamis mall. To be a part of the largest weekend of the year at Glamis.

Saturday we saw it start to calm down as people that had been in the dunes all week started the trek home. We did get a group of three rhinos that came all the way over from Buttercup to get a picture taken of their ride and a custom Ranger that was very impressive. Be sure to check out all of our pictures from the weekend. If you were at Glamis at all that week you may be in this set of pictures.

As Sunday came, Glamis turned into a ghost town. Vendor flats was empty. Our camp and all of them around cleared out to head home in the Sunday traffic. In order to celebrate the completion of a great but long weekend, Big Belly Crew, Glamis Gone Wild, Got Sand?, and us headed to Yuma for a sand free meal at Outback.

Now that Thanksgiving dinner is just a bunch of left-overs and Christmas music is all over the radio, we need to look at December as it is shaping up to be a great month out here at Glamis. There are two events that are going to be huge. This coming weekend is the H-Bomb, Polaris, Metal Mulisha and Jager event where they are going to have jumping and music starting at 1pm and then the world premier of Huevos 10 at dark. Then on December 15-16 Yamaha has chosen to do a Customer Appreciation weekend. Be sure to check our calendar of events to get more information on both events! We will be here! Come and join us!

Check out the pictures from the last two weekends and the mac & cheese cookoff winners!
