The weekend started out with RAIN and lots of it. The storm came just as dark settled in on Friday night. It was unbelievable. I had to walk outside to cover up a generator and within the 3 minutes that I was outside I was soaked to the bone and had to change all of my clothes! It rained like this for about 4 hours, without letting up. A bad start to what should be an awesome weekend.
Polaris and HBomb were to put on a huge event for the weekend called the Sand Riot. They invited the Bomb Squad, Metal Mulisha, and the Jager stage that would host multiple bands. On Wednesday I saw one of the greatest sights – a Polaris semi truck going so fast through the sand that there was a dust cloud all around it. He got right to his spot! I wish I had gotten pictures of that! On Thursday the Jager stage wasn’t quite as successful. Weighing in at around 90,000 pounds even the CAT had fun pulling it. So it didn’t quite end up exactly where they wanted it, but it ended up being perfect.
Thursday and Friday the events area filled in with vendors – Jagged X, Dragon Fire, Custom Motorsports, Hot Rides 4 U, Mafia Industries, Dana Creech, FMF, Fox Shocks and more. It became a populated area packed with Polaris RZR’s and Rangers and all the aftermarket items that you could think of. DJ Drama from Oregon was down to host the events and the Metal Mulisha and Bomb Squad were cruising the dunes and enjoying their time at Glamis. A group of over 30 Polaris officials and engineers also took on the Glamis dunes. All of them coming back with smiles and excited about the experience.
Saturday morning offered us a view that few will ever see. The Glamis lake! Have you ever seen the washes filled with water, or the area where you turn to Olds Hill running like a river? Amazing. Check out the pictures! One poor guy was driving down Sand Highway and ran smack into a huge hole where the drainage tunnel was dumping water. It took a backhoe to dig out the truck before the CAT could even think about pulling it out.
As the day progressed the wind would just not stop. A windy nasty day, but still many came out to join the Sand Riot. We set up directly across from the stage so we had a great view of Pretty In Stereo, Evelocity, Duress, Death By Stereo, and the headliner Suicidal Tendencies. The bands rocked out from around 1pm though til dark.
Just at dark the wind started to die down and DJ Drama announced that Bomb Squad and Metal Muslisha were getting ready to jump. Yep, they were going to do it, even with the wind. The crowd gathered up for the excitement and one back flip after another launched and landed. The pictures aren’t great at all because I don’t have an extra special flash, but you will get the point when you see them! It was awesome.
Right after they were done jumping the attention went back to the Jager stage where Suicidal Tendencies was getting ready to rock out. Wow! What an experience and what a great crowd. Over 2,000 people came out of their trailers to fight the wind and joined around the stage for the concert. After the concert was done, Polaris dumped an entire ranger full of product as they threw hats, beanies, t-shirts, footballs and more into the crowd. And then the World Premier of Huevos 10 – A MUST BUY FOR CHRISTMAS!
All in all, the weekend turned out great. The weather stunk, but the die hards were at Glamis and supporting the event. To see all of the pictures be sure to link below!
Last weekend wrapped up our stay out at Glamis. We will still be there almost every weekend, but not stationary on Vendor Row. Check out our calendar of events for when and where we will be at Glamis. Next weekend we are off to Arizona for the Sand Show. Sounds like there are all kinds of events happening that have never taken place before. Should be fun! See you there!
